Four construction contractors shortlisted to tender for construction of Bank Street Park

The highly anticipated 1.1-hectare waterfront park surrounding the southern pylon of the iconic Anzac Bridge is a step closer with the NSW Government announcing the shortlisted tenderers for its construction.

After a thorough evaluation process, the following tenderers have been shortlisted:

  • Icon

  • Lipman

  • Stephen Edwards Constructions

  • BESIX Watpac

These tenderers were selected based on their innovative proposals, commitment to sustainability and proven track record in delivering high-quality public spaces.

The park will be among the first of many public benefits that will be delivered as part of the renewal of Blackwattle Bay, an exciting urban renewal opportunity that will transform over 10 hectares of industrial land into a sustainable world-class harbourfront destination.

Other key features of the park include:

  • Food and beverage: A new café kiosk by the water at Blackwattle Bay.

  • Harbourside promenade: Connecting footpaths and cycleways to a future 15km waterfront walkway between Woolloomooloo and Rozelle Bay, one of Australia’s longest harbourfront walkways and a ‘must see’ attraction in Sydney.

  • Water access and storage: Facilities for dragon boats and paddle craft, with a new pontoon for launching kayaks and paddleboards. Sandstone blocks will provide easy water access and improve marine habitats.

  • Recreational facilities: A multipurpose court, playground and fitness stations under the ANZAC Bridge deck, offering shade and protection.

  • Public spaces and native landscaping: Seating areas, a viewing deck, shade trees and First Nations inspired shade structures and native species to encourage local wildlife.

  • Integrated public art: Celebrating art that recognises the contributions of First Nations people.

  • Adaptive reuse of structures: Existing buildings will be repurposed for community amenities and storage, with foundations transformed into seating areas and gardens.

  • Sustainable buildings: A new community space and marina office with a green roof and solar panels, contributing to a 5 Star Green Star Communities rating.

The new park received planning approval in August 2024 and the final tenderer is expected to be announced in the coming months, with construction expected to commence in mid-2025.
