Submission of the Blackwattle Bay Precinct Response to Submissions Report to Department of Planning and Environment

The revitalisation of Blackwattle Bay will see Sydney’s most under-utilised harbourfront precinct transformed to an activated, vibrant and sustainable urban village.

In July 2021 the State Significant Precinct Study was placed on public exhibition, providing a formal opportunity for the community and stakeholders to provide feedback on the precinct plan and proposed planning framework.

Over 2400 submissions were received, and we thank everyone for taking the time to provide their feedback.

In response to that feedback, the revised Precinct Plan includes the following proposed changes:

  • Reduced building heights and mass

  • Revised land use mix, reducing the number of apartments

  • A revised open space strategy, including a widened foreshore promenade of 20 metres and a permanent boardwalk

  • Committed to the provision of supporting infrastructure and more affordable housing

  • Adopted progressive sustainability targets and initiatives

  • Strengthened commitment to recognising and celebrating First Nations culture and designing with Country

  • Reduced private vehicle reliance

  • Improved sunlight access and wind performance

  • A Design Excellence strategy for the public domain.
